Tanzanites is renown for its precious deep blue/purple color and is only found in the Merelani Hills of Northern Tanzania. 50x rarer than a diamond, Tanzanite's were first discovered in 1962 and first marketed in the United States by Tiffany & Co in 1968.
Tanzanites belong to the epidote group of minerals and is widely considered the most famous gem variety within the epidote family. The future of tanzanite is unclear since the world’s production only comes from an area that barely 6 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. The most valuable stones are an intense, rich blue with high clarity. Tanzanite is strongly pleochroic and as the stone is rotated you can see blue, reddish purple, and bluish green or greenish yellow colors
